So far, blogging is going ok. Better than I thought. I'm not huge on these new updated technology things, even though I need to be. So I'm glad that I finally have 2 courses this semester that is making me advance my knowledge on technology. I know it will only benefit me when I have my own classroom.
After reading Bronx Masquerade, I just wanted to post on how much I really enjoyed that book. Although I would not read a lot of that stuff in an elementary classroom, I think it was a great book that can help me think of different ways to make poetry a part of my lesson and bring it into my classroom. I thought the book was amazing. I finished it in 2 days. It just kept me really hooked. The poems were so intense and I was always curious to see what Tyrone had to say after each poem after I picked up on the fact that there was a pattern in his responses. I started to notice that he was realizing a lot about his own life and own stereotypes towards his other peers. My discussion group and I had a great talk about why we thought Tyrone was the one picked to comment after each poem and really be the narrator of the book. It was interesting to hear what we all had to say.
I really liked how all of the poems were so intense because there are schools like that. Schools that are so diverse with every type of person, black or white, fat or skinny, pregnant or not. We may be put in a school district for our internship or be hired into a district that has students like that. It was just a good way to remember that there are people out there like these students in this book.
